Johnson County, Wyoming
Tucked into the rugged beauty of eastern Wyoming, Outlaw Cave Campground offers an experience you won't find anywhere else. Cool stone walls, crackling fire pits, and skies so dark with stars they look like they've been turned up to full brightness.
Our Story
Long before GPS coordinates and paved roads, this was a place travelers whispered about — a natural limestone cavern that offered shelter, cool water, and a moment of peace in an unforgiving landscape.
Outlaw Cave Campground sits on land that has stood unchanged for millennia. The cave itself was carved by water and time, and for generations it served as a refuge for pioneers, ranchers, and those who needed a break from the open range.
Today, we keep that spirit alive. No Wi-Fi. No TVs. No rush. Just you, the stone, and the kind of quiet that reminds you what your own thoughts sound like. Whether you're here for a single night or a whole week, you'll leave feeling like you've been somewhere real — somewhere that hasn't been redesigned for comfort, but preserved for truth.
The Caves
Each cave is unique — carved by nature, shaped by time, and prepared with care for your stay.
Our largest and most accessible cave, featuring soaring stone ceilings, a cozy fire pit, and enough room for a full group to gather around the flames. Sleep under a natural stone roof — literally.
A snug, intimate space perfect for couples or small families. The walls here are closest, the silence deepest, and the stars visible through a natural opening in the ceiling — a built-in observatory.
Named for its rugged history, this cave offers the most dramatic setting on the property. Perched above the canyon edge, it's where the wind sings and the sun sets in colors you won't believe.
The Experience
With zero light pollution, the Milky Way stretches across the sky like a spilled river of diamonds. Bring a blanket, lie back, and forget everything you thought you knew about the night.
Gather around the stone fire pit as the temperature drops and the canyon comes alive with sounds you've never noticed. Roast marshmallows, share stories, or simply listen to the crackle.
Hike trails that wind through sagebrush, past ancient rock formations, and into canyons where the only footprints are your own. Every path leads somewhere new and wonderfully untamed.
Morning light filters through the cave entrance and paints the stone in gold. Coffee in hand, you'll understand why people call this the best wake-up they've ever had.
Learn about the outlaws, ranchers, and pioneers who found shelter in these very caves. Our guides share stories that make the stone walls feel alive with history.
No screens. No notifications. No rush. Just the people you came with and the kind of conversation that only happens when there's nothing else to do.
